Edgar Bergen and his mischievous puppet Charlie McCarthy made their radio debut in 1936 on NBC's THE ROYAL GELATIN HOUR. A year later, they headlined THE CHASE AND SANBORN HOUR, where a mock feud arose between McCarthy and comedian W. C. Fields. Bergen and McCarthy quickly became two of radio's biggest stars, and the duo took to Hollywood starring in a handful of films, including YOU CAN'T CHEAT AN HONEST MAN ('39).
