Following Donald Trump's return to office as President, his administration has revoked a record 100,000 visas in one year, including some 10,000 student and worker visas. This comes as the US is in the midst of a massive crackdown on immigration characterised by deportations and new visa restrictions.
The West African nation of Niger announced on Dec. 26, that it would “completely and permanently” stop issuing visas to U.S. citizens and ban U.S. nationals from entering into the country “indefinitely,” according to The Street. Other West African nations followed suit, including Burkina Faso, Chad and Mali.
A total of 25 more countries have been added to a list that previously included 13, nearly tripling the policy's reach.
While the pilot program largely targets countries in Africa, the latest expansion includes countries in Central Asia, South Asia, and the Pacific.
The Trump administration has added seven countries, including five in Africa, to the list of nations whose passport holders are required to post bonds of up to $15,000 to apply for visas to enter the United States.
