Texas Commission on Environmetnal Quality hears complaints about Marathon Petroleum's El Paso oil refinery at meeting for air-permit renewal.

Peru is looking for private managers or investors to improve the operations of a new state-owned oil refinery that is currently only accumulating losses.

Marathon said in a late Wednesday TCEQ regulatory filing that the fire broke out when residual hydrocarbons ignited as the company's crews were draining a vessel. The filing listed the refinery's "alkylation unit number 2 operating area" as the process unit.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has approved an amended workplan from Port Hamilton Refining and Transportation LLLP, clearing the way for the continued removal of hazardous materials at the St. Croix refinery under a binding legal agreement reached in 2024.

Companies that already have operations in the country stand to benefit, but those that have profited from a standoff between Caracas and Washington could lose out.
