Heavy snow, sleet and freezing rain are slamming large parts of the U.S. as the dangerously cold weather causes major power outages and travel disruptions.

A large winter storm is bringing dangerous ice and high winds to North Georgia with freezing rain expected to begin Saturday night.

Travel is expected to be difficult to impossible, and widespread power outages are likely as ice weighs down trees and lines.
